Home is where love grows

HDB IN SINGAPORE.
Housing over 95% of our population, it is befitting to say that many of our childhood memories revolve around our HDB (Housing and Development Board) estate. Playing catching under the void decks, uncles and aunties chilling and gossiping over the latest affairs over a stone table, smell of kopi and toast from the coffee shop two blocks down, and a friendly "Hello, good morning!" from the ma-ciks next door...

"HELLO,
GOOD MORNING!"

A PLACE TO CALL HOME

HDB flat
is a common sight in Singapore. In fact, it is part of our successful long-term strategy to combat the issue of housing since independence. The home ownership scheme introduced in 1960s was successful in building comfortable and affordable houses, where citizens of the budding nation can have a place called home.

MORE THAN A MILLION

HDB flats have been built over the last five decades, giving home to more than 95% of the Singapore population.

This year, as we celebrate our nation's golden jubilee, we are reminded once again of how far we have come together as a nation. How our living standards were improved over a short five decades. From squatter huts to high rise apartments, many of these HDB flats today even fit the bill of a metropolitan area on its own.

One of the unique feature of this year's celebration was to dress up our HDB estates in colourful murals. It's heartening to see the combined effort of our community, where the exterior of our homes were splashed with delightful hues of vibrance!

Home is where love grows...
Memories built, safekept in a corner of our hearts.
