#amandaleebride | Georgina & Alex

Having dated for 9 years before tying the knot in end 2019, Georgina and Alex met some 13 years back, when Alex’s band was looking for a bassist! As musicians themselves, and Georgina being a graphic designer too, this young couple made use of their artistic flair to pull off an intimate wedding ceremony at the comfort of the bride’s home.

Unlike most brides, Georgina decided to go with a colour gown as her main wedding dress! A subtle play of blush and sky blue gives vibrancy to the wedding, with Alex in his custom-made suit to compliment Georgina too.

“I wanted a memorable, unconventional gown, and was particularly on the lookout for gowns that weren’t white. I was searching on Google for a dress designer, and was intrigued by Amanda Lee’s collections. They were interesting, unique, and exactly what I was looking for, and I didn’t hesitate to make an appointment, even though it was still many months before my planned wedding date.

When I turned up for my appointment, Miah was very accommodating and helpful, showing me all the different options I had. I tried on a few more conventional-looking ones, as well as some bolder options. I realised I wanted something I could move around in - I was repelled by stories of brides who constantly needed a person to lean on during their wedding day because of how hard it was to walk in their heels and exceedingly long skirts! I knew I would be spending several hours in this dress, and wanted to be comfortable and happy on my big day. Who said looking good and being comfortable were mutually exclusive? I even made a decision to wear sneakers in my gown, and Miah encouraged me to be confident in my choices.

Eventually, I settled on a beautiful blush and blue flowered gown with a mandarin collar and a skirt that was long enough to be elegant, but not so long that walking would be an ordeal. I would be wearing this dress for both the ceremony and dinner. It was unlike anything I’d ever worn before, and I felt like a fairy princess in it - not a common feeling for me! Several of my older relatives seemed surprised that I had chosen to wear an unconventional non-white dress for the ceremony - it was not something they were used to - but I was confident in my decision, and had never felt more beautiful in my life.”

“As we weren't looking for a conventional wedding gown, that freed up my options when looking for a wedding suit. I knew I wanted something that was complementary to her choice, and asked Miah for his opinion. I ended up going with his first recommendation, a beautiful blue-and-pink windowpane pattern, that not only matched Georgina's gown perfectly, but also conveyed the joy and cheerfulness of the most important day of our lives.”

The couple worked together to pull off the wedding of their dreams, down to curating their own playlist of songs to play in the background (songs that they both loved and were significant in their relationship), constantly keeping in mind that that keeping it simple and personal was the most important aspect of their celebration.

“Apart from the selection of our wedding gown and suit, opting for a colour scheme that wasn’t primarily white opened up a host of options. We had fun in choosing the decorations and flowers, as well as converting the garden into the area for our solemnisation.”

Georgina and Alex also shared with us the eventual decision to hold a home wedding, as they wanted it to be all about family and love…

“We wanted a mood that was symbolic of and true to us - something cheerful and warm. We wanted a more intimate event that we could share with those close to our heart. Keeping the guest list small meant we got to spend more meaningful time with those who attended our wedding instead of rushing around. All these factors led to us realising that a home wedding was the best option. We chose to have the wedding at Georgina’s family home as it was a special place to us and gave a strong sense of family and togetherness.”

“It was also very important for us to keep the wedding relatively small (maximum of 100 people) to keep the feel intimate. We wanted to be married amongst familiar faces, not a mass of people we may or may not know! We faced some resistance from extended family on this point, but managed to persevere in our decision and are very glad that we did.”

With the blessings of their loved ones, Georgina and Alex kept to heart on what truly mattered most to them in a union, keeping families and love the core of their celebration… Congratulations once again to this lovely couple, thanks for having us along your journey!
