Spring/ Summer 2019- The Story
by the sweet adolescent years of a young lady, designs from the Spring/ Summer 2019 collection celebrate the budding 16 years of Amanda Lee Weddings. From powder- like dreamy tulle to sophisticated mermaid silhouette, each design reflects the sweet conflict of a young adult’s transition.
The launch at Mandarin Orchard in October 2018 held true to the tale of the label’s essence; a narrative creation of romance with intricate beadwork, play of colours, and wearable art brought to life.
THE LOOK
Minimal, strong, sweet adolescent. A neutral look with a tinge of nectarous drama.
The Narration
Drawing upon the beauty of a young lady, the collection was brought to life with elements of textures, layers, and a combination of art, fashion, and bridal.
Confessing that one is not a typical sweet romantic, Chief Designer, Amanda Lee, sought to explore and integrate the innocence of a young girl into her creations, yet not losing the touch of her edginess and keen interest in introducing non-conventional elements into a bridal collection.
“Thoughts were put into this collection, striking to portray modern day romance.”
Think tulle, and most people will relate to something sweet, girlish, and romantic. Playing with layered tones of tulle, and exploring complimenting or contrasting colours added an elegant edge to an otherwise girlish style.
“ The bold use of fabrics from Liberty London into a bridal range is a reflection of my own adolescent.”
- Amanda Lee, on breaking away from conventional bridal materials and experimented with integrating fashionable fabrication into bridal wear.
“We like to put men in more fashionable statement pieces too. The key is to look stylish, yet incredibly charming.”
On introducing bold prints and plaids into the latest men’s range. Colours and motifs that are often seen as feminine (such as pink, floral etc.), put together with traditional tailoring.
Colours that are often not the top choice in a bridal range are given a nod in this collection. Canary yellow with opulent rose gold combination gives a subtle rebellious nod to the new age princess.
“ Incorporating a classic ballgown plays tribute to a debutante party, used traditionally to celebrate the rite of young girls entering adulthood.”
With a ruffled shawl that added glamour to a party, and can be detached to fall off as a dramatic train for a grand entrance.
Amanda considered the boldness of a budding adult by exploring with different necklines, yet keeping the designs ethereal and elegant; marking the transition of a young girl into adulthood. Appliqués and beadwork were immensely used to speak of sweet glamour and ladylikeness.
“Making classic come alive… with textures, colours...”
On having a hand-painted detachable train inspired by nature, attached onto a classic full lace mermaid, with romantic cape- like train.
